Dress Code

The following is South High School's dress code.
Philosophy: Students are expected to dress in a manner that is conducive to a proper learning environment, and does not distract others from learning. If it is determined that a student’s attire is distracting or inappropriate, that student will be expected to remedy the situation by changing attire or putting on additional clothing if available (sweater, jacket, etc.) Once changed, students will be welcomed back to participate in class activities. Please refer to the South High School dress code for clarification of school dress expectations. 
Dress Code: In cooperation with teachers, students and parents/guardians, the principal or designee shall establish school rules governing student dress and grooming which are consistent with law, Board policy and administrative regulations.

official South High School hats and headgear are allowed on campus. Only medically/religiously required headgear, approved by the principal, may be worn indoors. Sun-protective clothing must comply with District and school site dress and grooming standards.

jewelry and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles etc.) shall be free from writing, pictures or any other insignia which are vulgar, profane or of a sexual nature, or bear drug, alcohol or tobacco company advertising, promotions and likenesses, or which advocate racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, or religious intolerance.

shall conceal underwear at all times. See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, off-the-shoulder or low-cut tops, bare midriffs and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited.

pajamas, nightgowns, and oversized clothing are not appropriate school wear.

gym shorts may not be worn in classes other than physical education.

The following are deemed unacceptable for school:

that is revealing, which may include but is not limited to: undershirts, blatantly over or undersized clothing, spaghetti straps less than 3%” wide. Clothing shall conceal undergarments at all times.

jewelry, and/or accessories which are considered unsafe, offensive, provocative, or intimidating in nature. This includes items that display language, symbols, signs, or pictures that are obscene, that slur or degrade on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, sex, disability, or sexual orientation; that impose a threat of imminent violence or disruption to the order of the campus; that are divisive in nature; that support drugs (alcohol and tobacco included); or that reference sexual and/or gang activities.

Deviation from acceptable standards of dress, appearance, or cleanliness, may result in disciplinary action until said condition is corrected.
